Researchers and Innovators
As a researcher I have adapted sensory ethnography as a research methodology for overcoming the challenges of changes in cognition, mental capacity and language associated with dementia. This approach used observation, participation and conversation methods that take into account the co researchers’ sensory experiences and the senses they use when communicating about their life experiences. I hoped to open new lines of communication through the use of the senses to overcome cognitive deficits associated with dementia. I also provide recommendations for undertaking research ethically with people who have decision making difficulties caused by disease.
I am currently working with Dr. Sofia Vougioukalou at Cardiff University on a research study exploring how people from diverse backgrounds experience dementia.
I am assisting with a study at the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research, Swansea University, examining aspects of continence with people living at home with dementia
